The actual potential of a salesperson resides more in conviction than in communication skills

Tell us something about your journey in FIIB. What made you choose Marketing?

“My time in FIIB was the best time in my life. It helped me to grow and develop into a better individual. The friends I made and the professors who taught me will be forever cherished by me.

The money and the incentives that you get through the Sales & Marketing activities are promising. In fact, this is what I heard when I was deciding which specialization to take up. I was ready to work hard anyway and eventually, I found both my comfort and my calling in Sales & Marketing.

What were your expectations from your career, did they differ from reality?

“Classroom studies are way different from the corporate reality. In reality the amount of rejections you face everyday, shape you into a stronger, sharper and observant individual. A salesperson requires a presence of mind to overcome the unpredictable challenges during his/her everyday office hours. Presence of mind and swift decision making power comes from experience which could only be collected from beyond the classroom boundaries. Lastly, bosses get rude frequently and that either drives you to perform better or bogs down your spirit and confidence. Always dare to look through the dark cloud. You will surely find your thrive back again. All of these can never be found in a textbook.

What fond memories did your visit to FIIB awaken?

“During my time the campus looked completely different. The basic essence of FIIB is just the same despite the fact that the professors are different and the campus has a new look altogether. Every part of the campus has some memories that I made with my batch-mates. I miss those days and I would definitely want to relive my time in FIIB in this renovated campus.”

What advice would you offer to students who take #NoHypeMBA at FIIB?

“People who want to get into sales believe that if they have impressive communication skills then they can be the best salesperson for their organization. But, this is not the actual picture from any angle! One requires ‘conviction’. A good salesman is the one who trusts his own product and believes that it can actually make a difference in the customer’s life. One must have persistence and hunger to grow in this field. The more one will prove one’s calibre, the better s/he will be recognised’’
